trees are Virginia s old churches, with their interesting brick work, communion silver and fascinating history. At Pilgrimage time, houses and gardens not usually open to tourist cooperate with the parish church, and guests are privileged to see homes with magnificent antiques many of which have been in the same family for generations. This year two old churches never before in the Pilgrimage participate: Christ Church in Alexandria and Fork Church in Hanover County. These will be open on the first week end. On the second, Westover Church and Grace Church are sponsors. In addition historic shrines cooperate with the Piligrimage and this year, Gunston Hall, is included in these for the first time. Christ Church is as much a patriotic shrine as old St. John’s in Richmond, and is focal point for a tour of Old Town where houses built in the 18th century have been restored to their former elegance. Tea will be served each afternoon at the Fitzhugh-Lee house from the Lee family service.
Fork Church in Hanover is in Patrick Henry country. Lunches will be served in the church parish house on Friday and Saturday, and tea on Sunday following an organ concert at the church. Old homes in Hanover never before open to tourists will show various periods of Virginia architecture.
On the October 13, 14 and 15 week end, Westover Church in Charles City County and Grace Church in Yorktown present tours that are widely diverse in interest. Plantation f " '__
