Affects 460,000 in Va
There are at least 460,000 persons in Virginia suffering from some form of emotional illness, according to estimates of the National Association for Mental Health. There are more people in Virginia in hospitals with mental illness at any one time than with all other diseases combined, including cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis and every other killing and crippling disease. Every third hospital bed in Virginia is in a mental hospital. “The Facts about Mental Illness in Virginia." a pamphlet prepared by the Virginia Association for Mental Health, was produced to show the Ithe >fitate’s»m^p»i illness problem. It describes treatment facilities and points out recent progress in the care of the mentally ill and emotionally disturbed.
