Sperryville Carnival
Opens Next Week
Plans and preparations for the annual Sperryville Firemen’s carnival are shaping up and it is scheduled to open next Wednesday night, July 17, then continues through Saturday night.
A feature of opening night is the awarding of $15 in cash at 11 p.m. The parade will be held Thursday evening and grand marshal will be “Miss Apple Blossom”, Jan Minnich of Martinsburg, W. Va. who won this title in connection with the Winchester Apple Blossom Festival. Approximately 100 units are entered in the parade and include bands, floats, antique cars, fire and rescue squad equipment, ladies auxiliaries and other marching units. A box supper will be sold on the grounds following the parade.
A carnival queen will be crowned during festivities Friday night and on Saturday a grand prize and many others will be given away.
Games, amusements and entertainment along with good food will be featured every night.
Anyone wishing to contribute baked goods, pies, cakes, etc. are asked to bring them to the food stand, especially for Thursday night.
