Not Answer To Crime
Rep. John 0. Marsh, jr., said at Scottsdale July 4 “law and order in the United States will not be assisted substantially by new laws to register and license firearms.”
“I can understand the sense of outrage at acts of violence involving guns which has prompted many citizens to demand licensing and registration legislation,” Marsh said, “but I continue to believe that the President’s proposal, and similar suggestions, would not have significant results with respect to the lawbreaker who elects to use a firearm in his illegal escapades.”
“Law and order will come through improvement of lawenforcement techniques, and through a broader and more active concern among all citizens for respect of all types of laws, because an orderly society cannot exist in the absence of such respect,” he commented.
The 7th District Congressman spoke at dedication ceremonies for a new bridge over the James River here, which was combined with observance of Independence Day and the marking of the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the town of Scottsville.
