Library Lines
To those who are guided in their choice of reading matter by the “Best-Sellers”, we would like to point out' that the library has now on its shelves ten out of the twenty books currently listed in the leading literary reviews. Acquisitions previously not mentioned in this column are:
JENNIE by Ralph Martin, a biography dealing with the romantic years in the life of the beautiful and talented Lady Randolph Churchill, Americanborn mother of the late Sii Winston Churchill.
WHIPPLE’S CASTLE by Thomas Williams. This novel is the third by this young American author, and it is a chronicle of a New England family during the 1940’s.
SUN SIGNS by Linda Goodman, an astrologer who appeared repeatedly as guest at the David Suskind T.V. program.
GRANT TAKES COMMAND by Bruce Catton, the last volume of a Grant biography which was started by Lloyd Lewis with his CAPTAIN SAM GRANT and continued by Bruce Catton’s GRANT MOVES SOUTH. (Both of these books will also be available to our readers shortly.) GRANT TAKES COMMAND is a masterful narrative of the last phases of the Civil War following the Vicksburg Campaign in the summer of 1863, as seen from Grant’s perspective. Bruce Catton is giving us with this biography an even more comprehensive meaning to the events of this war than he did previously in his well-known historical writings on this subject.
ETIQUETTE, JR. by M. E. Clark. This book continues to be a favorite guide for young people in questions of manners, clothes, dances, first jobs, etc.
