Major issues confronting the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors at the April meeting held Friday were teachers salaries, secondary roads and the salaries of county officials and personnel.
The meeting was opened with the annual road hearing scheduled and advertised for this day. Resident Engineer James K. Skeens was present to hear proposals and answer questions of residents attending. Among requests were the widening and improvement of Routes 645, 640, 637 in the Amissville area; 621 and 604 near Woodville; 626 at Rock Mills; Route 717 near Slate Mills and petitions for 600 and 671 in the Sperryville area; the Flint Hill end of 637 and also 663 in that area.
R. E. Wood of Sperryville, Chairman of the Safety Committee for Rappahannock, expressed concern over blind curves and hills on many of the secondary roads and was concerned about the poor engineering of the intersection at Massies Corner where Routes 211 and 522 intersect
Mr. Skeens reported that the entire budget for secondary roads this fiscal year which ends June 31 was $250,000 and the aim of the Highway Department is to
