Individual income tax returns for 1968 mailed by taxpayers to the Internal Revenue Service Center, Philadelphia, Pa., 19155, will be accepted as timely filed if they are postmarked on or before midnight, Tuesday, April 15, 1969, Mr. Boyle said.
Director Boyle expressed his appreciation to Virginia taxpayers for their excellent cooperation in mailing their refund returns and returns with payments to the IRS Service Center in Philadelphia. Of the million returns that have been filed by Virginians, 99.1 percent were mailed to the Service Center. This is the highest record for the five states and the District of Columbia which are serviced by the Philadelphia Service Center.
More than 60,000 refunds for Virginians have been delayed because of taxpayer errors, Mr. Boyle said. The three areas accounting for over 50 percent of all errors are, missing or incomplete social security numbers, missing wage statements, Forms W-2, or tax schedules, and incorrect tax computation. According to the records of the Service Center in Philadelphia, 493,558 refund returns have been processed for Virginia taxpayers who have received a total of $87.5 million.
