Newbill Miller reminded me that now is the time to spray for control of thistles. For good results, spray while the thistles are still in the rosette stage or before they are 8-12 inches tall. Spray any time now when the temperature will reach 60 degrees or higher during the warmest part of the day and the wind is less than 5 miles per hour. Early morning or late afternoon, when the air is still, is often the ideal time to spray. 2,4-D amine or low volatile ester is still the recommended spray material.
Some of the counties have had damage to vegetable gardens shade trees and orchards resulting from 2,4-D spray drift. Hope we can keep problems like this from happening in Rappahannock.
