Mr. Skeens was sympathetic to all requests and declared that every endeavor was and would be made to obtain the most for the tax dollar. According to figures released Tuesday by the Virginia Department of Highways secondary road funds for Rappahannock in 1909-70 will total $300,108.
J. Newbill Miller, Board Chairman, along with several others voiced the opinion that a larger percent of road funds should be channeled to the secondary system instead of the primary. However, Mr. Skeens explained the method used for assaying road needs, and said he felt the distribution in Virginia was very good.
Mr. Skeens also announced that bids on the Route 211 bypass of the Town of Washington would be let next month and construction should begin by the middle of the summer. This will be a limited access section in the arterial highway system.
