Board Meeting
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors held its July meeting Friday the 4th with all members present. Minutes of the June meeting and then a special meeting were read and received approval of the group.
The Dump Committee was authorized to make decisions and act on necessary maintenance and operation of the refuse problem. It was noted that the dump needed to be pushed in badly. The local Jaycees have volunteered to erect a panel fence around the units at Sperryville.
The Board approved the appropriation of $4,600 as Rappahannock’s part of the initial cost of securing land for the Community College which will be located near Middletown.
A long discussion on the two obsolete school buildings in the county, the Washington and Sperryville old elementary schools, brought no concrete decision on their fate. A Washington, D.C. wrecking company had offered to come and make an estimate on wrecking the buildings. They would charge $200 just to come and look. A recommendation was made to contact a firm in Front Royal which might be interested, and the Clerk was asked to do this.
No bids have been received on painting and repair work needed on the courthouse so this issue is still open.
The group voted to petition the Circuit Court with a request that county boundary markers are properly placed by the surveyors involved.
After a run-down of current bills and the approval of payment for the same, the short meeting adjourned.
