where we spent the night at Blue Springs. The next morning, we took Interstate 70 for St. Louis and saw a lot of flood waters on our way, and went through the Gateway of the West. It was a big arch 630 feet high. We went to the top of it and looked out over the city.
Crossing the line into Illinois we passed through Troy and spent the night at Effingham. The next morning we stopped at a service station and a dog jumped into the car and wanted to come home with us. He frightened Faye and caused her to jump in a mud puddle. In the city of Brazil there were flood waters everywhere and it stood in the streets 6 or 8 inches deep.
Arriving in Ohio we found more water flooding near Columbus. We spent the night in Cambridge, Ohio. The next day took us through Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia and at 5:30 were back in Amissville. I have had a grand vacation, but in a few weeks I plan to go to North Carolina and visit for two weeks.
Bench Show Results
The Virginia Fox Hunters Association bench show which was held Saturday in Culpeper drew entries from seven states with a total of 68 hounds in the competition. The show began at 7 p.m. with the Warrenton Hunt Showing ten couples of hounds under whip. The hounds responded perfectly in the hands of Dick Bywaters as he paraded them.
Bob Apperson of Culpeper was ringmaster and W. H. Lyne acted as master of ceremonies.
Results of the show were: Best male puppy, under 6 months, Charles Talley, Louisa; he also had best female puppy; best male puppy 6-12 mo., Lawson Blankenship, Murphy, Va.; same female, Jack Tucker, Crafton, W. Va.
Derby male, Bill and Doris Taylor, Fairfax; derby female, Gene Beaver, Concord, N. C.; All age male, Robert Bootner.
