the Congress on the status of the fund.
The money in the trust fund may only be used to pay social benefits and to pay the cost of administering the Social Security Administration. Any funds not currently needed for these purposes may be used to buy U. S. Government bonds.
At present the trust fund totals over 28 billion dollars. Estimates covering the next 75 years show that income from contributions and interest in invested assets will be more than enough to finance all present and future benefits as they fall due.
Social security is held in an honored trust. It is safely held, and is sufficient to meet the benefits due to all entitled people in the years ahead.
