On July 23 the Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority met and considered a reorganization of the authority and the question of a planned sewer system for the town of Sperryville. At the meeting C. E. JV nson, Jr. was electee chairman, I. L. Parrish vice-chairman and W. F. Moffett, Jr. secretary-treasurer.
The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority was formed on May 3, 1968 for the initial project of installing a complete sewer system in the town of Sperryville. The need for this system was pointed out several years ago by the State Water Control Board, whose purpose is to prevent pollution of Virginia’s small streams and large rivers.
The first step taken by the authority concerning the Thornton River problem was the employment of a firm of engineers to make a survey of the pollution problem in the county. This survey showed that a definite need existed for a sewerage system in the Sperryville area; and that a substantial delay in the installation of the system might result in a contamination of the area’s wells. This would involve the additional installation of a costly water system.
