Discourage Farmers
Tax assessment policies of many state and communities are driving agriculture out of business in many areas of the country, according to Tom Frost, Member of the Virginia House of Delegates.
Frost, chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Virginia House, spoke to the Agriculture Committee, Southerr Conference, Council of State Government in Mobile, Alabama on July 29, on Recent Trends ir Agricultural Land Assessment anc Taxation.
Referring to a comprehensive study on land assessmenl conducted in Virginia last year Frost said, “Some farms were paying more in taxes than returr from the property.
“Attention needs to be directed to the fact that agriculture is a basic industry in a community providing an economic base money in the banks, jobs, an escape from concrete and blacktop, and a beautiful countryside,” Frost said.
