Eye Donors Given
Guidelines
Richmond--In view of the increased public interest in the donation of human organs and tissue on death, the Old Dominion Eye Bank has issued some new guidelines for eye-tissue pledging.
R. Kenneth Hudgins, Executive Director of the Old Dominion Eye Bank in Richmond, called attention to the fact that eye tissue to be used for sight-restoring transplants through the services of an eye bank should be specifically stipulated as so donated, even in cases where entire human bodies are assigned, on death, to a medical institution for either transplant purposes or for the advancement of medical science. Where two or more parts of the human body are so donated, Hudgins said, the donation instructions, as well as the legal instrument willing parts or all of the body, should specify that the organization first taking custody
