Twenty-eight contracts totaling $18,305,095 have been approved [for award by the State Highway Commission. Bids on the projects were opened in Richmond on June 25. The largest single contracts were for Interstate Route 64 work near Richmond. The Commission authorized readvertisement of 11 projects on which bids exceeded estimates or for which no bids were received. A list of projects in Rappahannock County and the surrounding area is as follows: RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY - Arterial US 211 - 2.69 miles of four lanes divided, bypassing Washington, Virginia, east and west of Rush River. July rainfall through Wednesday morning totaled 7.60 inches, according to the official weather gauge in Washington, Va. TTiis is the most rainfall for that month since 1959 at which time there v^as 7.25 inches. In 1956 July rainfall totaled 12.15 inches. According to the Highway Department, no serious road damage has been done by the severe storms; only a few small washouts have occurred

Involved in Crash
Three cars were involved in a collision on Route 211 west of Sperryville Sunday evening about ! 6:20. They were Manuel Thacker of Greenbelt, Md operating a 67 Ford pickup; William Franklin Wills of Arlington in a 65 Pontiac; and Ruth B. Graham of Stafford in a 62 Pontiac.
According to Trooper W A. Buntin, Thacker attempted to make a left turn into Parkway Souvenir Shop and was struck by the Wills car which was attempting to pass. Wills was unable to see the Thacker signal because of a car in between them. After striking the Thacker car, Wills struck a second vehicle parked in front of the souvenir shop belonging to Ruth Graham. Damage to the Thacker vehicle was estimated at $250; to the Wills car at $600 and at $500 to the Graham car.
Wills was charged with reckless driving and Thacker with failing to give a timely signal.
