Horse Show at
Amissville Saturday
The Amissville Ruritan Club Horse Show will be held Saturday, August 9, at the Carnival Grounds, one mile west of Amissville. Admission is one dollar for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The show will begin at 9:00.
Lunch will be available at the show grounds. Merchants and friends have donated many items to be given away on the day of the show.
There will be six championships awarded which include small pony english, large pony english, english horse, small pony western, large pony western and western timed events. Four ribbons will be awarded in each class, along with prize money. There will be no cross entering of English or Western divisions.
In the event of rain the show will be held Saturday, August 16, at 9 a.m.
Mrs Johnson Elected
Library Chairman
On August 1, the Board of the Rappahannock Library held its annual meeting at which Mrs. Elisabeth Johnson of Sperryville, Va. was elected chairman. Mrs. Johnson succeeds William M. Carrigan who has held the position of Chairman of the Board for the past six years and whose term had expired in accordance with the provisions of the Library charter. Under Mr. Carrigan’s able leadership the Library has grown from a modest start to a recognized public institution serving the community. 1 Mrs. Elisabeth Johnson is :'<oroughly familiar with the Library and its programs. She was elected in 1962 as the first Chairman while the Library was being organized and subsequently served another term as a trustee and also as the Library’s secretary. Spong Is Coordinator Educational Activities
U. S. Senator William B. Spong of Portsmouth will serve as the 1969 co-ordinator of the Citizens Activities for Educational Opportunity Week, which is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Student Governments. The project is designed to inform high school students of the advantages derived from college education. Educational Opportunity Week has been scheduled for November 16 through 22, when seminars will be held at more than 50 colleges in the state and attended by high school Juniors and Seniors. In designating Senator Spong as co-ordinator, the Association noted his long time interest in education, his work as chairman of the Virginia Commission on Public Education and his interest n education as a member of the United States Senate.
