Before leaving California they visited other cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Howard and family and Miss Marilyn Smiley in San Jose and were entertained at dinner, having first gone to see Santa Cruz Beach, which is called the “Virginia Beach” of California, and also the “Big Trees” in the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Some of these trees are said to have been there before the birth of Christ. One specimen was 246 feet tall with no limbs for the first 133 feet.
