A big entry is expected in I several of the races on the card ifor the Rappahannock Point-to-Point Races scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at Thornton Hill Farm, Sperryville.
The fourth race, the Ladies Race, will be run as part of the Virginia Circuit 1970 high-point award for the best lady point-to-point rider and a large entry is anticipated . This is true also in the seventh race, the Virginia Circuit for the outstanding gentleman rider. The Hound Race which climaxes the event will have numerous entries as the possibility of the challenge cup being retired is great.
The races will begin at 12:30 p.m. There will be free general parking and a $2 gate admission. Subscribers parking and tickets for two will be $10.
The first race will be the Pairs Race for teams of hunting horses with hunt members up, in hunting attire. The second race is for juniors and will be a mile and a half flat race. Following this is a three quarter mile race for ladies and gentlemen while the fourth race is the exciting Ladies Race over approximately three miles with stiff timber jumps. The fifth race is run by gentlemen for the United Hunt over about the same course and the sixth is an open race for both professional and amateur men over timber. The seventh and last race is the Ben Venue, the race for the high point award for the best gentleman rider in the Virginia Circuit. The finale is the famous drag race and competing will be “Badness” who is angling for the third leg on the challenge trophy. She is owned by Lawton Needed:
Swimming Instructors Planning is underway for Rappahannock youth to again have water safety classes in the summer. Swimming instructors are badly needed. Persons having, or knowing of persons, who have | swimming instructor abilities, are | urged to contact the Extension ; Office at 675-3619.
