Are you planning to remodel or build a new home? A feature that you might want to think about is an entrance hall. An entrance hall is desirable where it is economically feasible. With the rising construction costs, this feature is often among the first to be eliminated. An entrance hall has many uses. It provides an opportunity to open the door without having callers step directly into the privacy of your living room. It helps to keep drafts out of the living room every time the front door is opened. It provides space for a coat closet which is a “must” in modem homes. It provides a convenient passage to various parts of the house. Requirements of the entrance hall are: There should be enough wall space if at all possible to hang or install a mirror near the entrance. There should be a door or screen between the hall and the living room to make it more private and to cut off drafts. The coat closet should accommodate certain items of clothing during the season they < are used. It should also provide 1 space for guests’ coats. The minimum closet should be 5’x3’ and should accommodate about 10 coats.
Decoration is important in the entrance hall. It should not be a cold dark entrance way, instead it should have the appearance of graciousness and warmth which gives the guest a “welcome” feeling. Since space necessarily limits the use of much furniture, the decorating must be done with color. To relate the color scheme to that in the adjoining living room you might paint the walls to match some fabrics or accessory used in the living room.
If slate, quarry tile or some other similar product is to be used for flow covering, this must be considered in the subfloor structure due to the extra weight
I it is easy to go from one part of , the house to another with as little travel as possible through the different rooms. Right angle turns I should be avoided since this may prohibit the moving in of large [ pieces of furniture.
