Late arrivals on the scene are deer fawns, beaver kits and young quail which won’t be born until ?ariy May. Fawns are often seen soon after birth but beavers remain in their lodge for several weeks before venturing into the lutside world. Young quail will be seen following their mothers single file in early summer. Persons roaming through the woods in spring often encounter young wildlife and are tempted to :atch the relatively slow and unwary animals and take them borne. Wild animals under the protection of their parents and the law are well equipped to survive the perils of the outdoors ind are much better off than illegally detained in some suburban home. Wild animals are extremely shy of humans and jften will not defend their young from them as they would from some animal predator leaving the mpression that the baby animals lave been abandoned.
