Seemingly God’s Ways are too hard for mankind because man has been heard asking, ‘Why does God allow so much suffering, sorrow, and death among good people?” The answer comes out of mankind’s disobedience of God’s Ways laid down for man in the beginning. God is using the results of man’s disobedience -- sorrow, suffering and death -- to show him that he is an effect of the first cause - God, and that he is like the moon, stars, rivers, and mountains -- put here to glorify God. There are almost as many definitions as there are faiths and denominations to God’s Ways and Means; and yet through all these various and differing concepts there runs a common and universally shared golden strand of belief that binds all mankind together in a brotherhood. It is the faith in God, in a divine and omnipotent Supreme Being whose ways and means rule and govern the universe, on whose will we are dependent, in whose mercy and goodness we can trust, and by whose light we must walk.

Now the question is “How do we know God?” and “How do we learn of His Ways and Means?” Three impressive quotations occur to my mind as imperishable examples of the profound humility, the true meekness of great religious spirits. St. Augustine, one of the noblest fathers of the Church, declared: “If thou couldst comprehend Him, He would not be God.” And a saintly Rabbi in the Talmud
