Campers planning to camp at Big Meadows or Matthews Arm Campgrounds should go prepared for cold temperatures and the possibility of snow or ice storms. The Loft Mountain Campground has not been opened because of thick layers of ice in the water system. It will be a few days before the Loft Mountain Campground will be opened.
Spring also brings the opening of trout season, and fishermen are reminded that fishing with any type of bait is prohiblted-only artificial lures may be used, and they may be used only with a single hook. Shenandoah National Park, because no fish are planted and only native fish are in the streams, has a special limit of 6 fish, and all fish under 8 Inches in length must be returned to the stream.
As a word of caution, those visitors using motorbikes or cycles must ride them only on public roads. Motorbikes and cycles are not permitted on closed fire and administrative roads or on trails. Cyclists found with their bikes off the public roads Irv the Park will be cited.
