The Virginia Education Association estimates that next year nearly 75% of the state's teachers will be in localities paying a minimum salary of $6500 or more and nearly 50% will be in localities where the maximum salary is $10,000 or greater.

Currently 47% of Virginia teachers are in localities with at least a $6500 minimum and 29 per cent are in localities with at least a $10,000 maximum.

The estimated projections for next year are based on anticipated increases and school board proposals in additioh1 id current salary schedules.

To date the VEA has been notified of established salary scales in only two localities. However, 23 school boards have made firm proposals to their governing bodies.

Mathews County has established a bachelor’s degree salary scale for next year ranging from a minimum of $6500 to $8350.
