Town Officials
Reelected Tuesday
On a completely write-in ballot officials for the Town of Washington were elected Tuesday. Mrs. Dorothy Davis, long time mayor, received 25 votes to be re-elected to that office. Mrs. Virginia Miller was given 30 votes as treasurer. She lias also held this position for a long time. Councilmen re-elected were Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins, 23 votes; Mrs. Christine Johnston, 26; Mrs. Edna Wayland, 21; Mrs. Bertha Armel, 19; and Mrs. Frances Foster received 13. Mrs. Wieland Flynt had announced that she was not a candidate for re-election. A total of 36 ballots were cast, a relatively large number for a town election.
It is questionable whether or not Mrs. Foster is eligible to serve in the capacity of a council member for she is employed in the office of the Treasurer of Rappahannock as Deputy. This is possibly a conflicting issue. Also of note is the fact that at present Mrs. Armel does not live within the town.
There were one to six votes cast for several other persons including Mrs. Carol Miller, Miss Ruby Jenkins and Mrs. Mary H. Lea. Mrs. Lea had already declined to run. Of interest is the fact that several men received votes and among them were W. F. Moffett, Kermit Weakley and Allie Huff.
Fishing Rodeo
A fishing rodeo will be held for 4-H’ers and other interested youth between the ages of 9 to 19 at Col. Earl E. Holmes farm at Flint Hill on Thursday, June 18, beginning at 9:30 .a-m. Instructions will be given in pond fishing techniques, building of farm ponds and, of course, there will be plenty of time to fish. Following the rodeo, prizes will be given in two divisions for catching the largest, smallest, first, last, most and least.
Persons interested in attending the rodeo are advised to bring their lunch, fishing tackle, and bait. Minnows will not be allowed. A fee will not be charged.
