John A. Burke
A funeral service for John Ashby Burke of Woodville was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Five Forks Regular Baptist Church in Sperryville, conducted by Elder Mack Morgan. Mr. Burke, 82, died Saturday, June 6, 1970 at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. He was the son of the late James Ashby and Sarah Dodson Burke and a native of Rappahannock County.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bertha Hawkins Burke; three sons, Gilbert A. Burke and Marvin R. Burke, both of Woodville, and James Lester Burke of Washington, Va ; one daughter, Mrs. Emest Lillard of Flint Hill; two brothers, Walter Burke and Weldon Burke, both of Woodville and two sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Hawkins of Woodville and Mrs. George Hawkins of Culpeper; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church at Woodville.
Pallbearers were Thomas R. Burke, Garfield Burke, Marshall Burke, Edgar Hawkins, Milton Hawkins, Wilson Burke, William Hawkins and Clyde Nethers.
Geest Funeral Home was in charge.
spent the weekend with Judge and Mrs. R. V. Snead at Virginia Beach and were joined there by Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Snead, Jr. and son, Ray Snead, III of Charlottesville.
2nd Lt. and Mrs. David C. Collins and daughter, Michelle are spending this week with Mrs. Collins’ parents, Mr. .and Mrs. William A. Curtis. On Wednesday they will leave for Enid, Oklahoma where Lt. Collins will be stationed for a year’s duty.
