Birth Certificates
B The State Department ol Health today urged parents of all children entering raiool for the first time thisy?all to take immediate steps to obtain a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Dr, Mack I. Shanholtz, State Health Commissioner, stated that “such certificates are generally needed as proof of age of new students."
He further stated that “because of the tremendous volume ol applications at this time of year, delays may occur. For this reason early applications are strongly urged.”
Parents should be aware that their child’s birth record is the single most important document that he can have because it proves not only his age, but also his citizenship, parentage, and data for other legal requirements. In Virginia all original records of births are received and permanently filed by the State
