Farm Storage Loans
Rappahannock County fanners can apply for loans to purchase grain storage and drying equipment any time of the year H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee said.
However, he suggests that farmers apply now for a loan, rather than wait, so the storage facility will be ready for the fall grain crop. Loans can be made for facilities that will store up to two years’ eligible commodities produced on the farm, the ASC Chairman said.
To be eligible for a loan, a farmer must grow an eligible crop and he must show that he needs the proposed storage and drying equipment. Eligible crops are corn, oats, barley, grain sorghum, wheat, rye, soybeans, flaxseed, rice, dry edible beans, peanuts and sunflower seeds.
Adequate storage for a big grair crop in the fall makes sense because you’re not caught in the bind of having to sell just wher prices are lowest at the peak 01 harvest.
Storage facility loans are repaic in four annual installments ovei five years with the first paymen due one year after the loan i: made. The current annual interes rate is 7'/4%.
