Vice Chairman H. B. Wood ^resided at the regular meeting of he Rappahannock County Board >f Supervisors held Friday at the Zk>urthouse in Washington, in the ibsence of Chairman J. Newbill Vliller. First on the agenda was a review of the secondary road 3udget by Resident Engineer James K. Skeens who reported an annual allotment of $317,000 plus. Of this, $175,000 will go toward improvements and the remainder, $142,000 toward maintenance. This is an increase Df 5% over the previous year, however, this hardly takes care of inflationary costs. It takes $575 per mile per year for maintenance which includes snow removal, additional stone, mowing, and other costs for maintaining the secondary roads.
A big item to come from improvement funds will be the bridge over the Rappahannock River near Flint Hill on the Rappahannock-Fauquier county line. Among other improvements set up in this budget are the extension of Route 642 from prior improvement on to Route 211 at Amissville. This will be hard surface using state forces rather than company contract: Route 637 (Poe’s Road West ol Amissville) grade, drain and stabilize which is almost complete but will be paid for from this budget; bridge on Route 621 ovei the Thornton River (Rudacille’i Mill) and the widening of Route 622, Harris Hollow road, hare surface for 2.7 miles.
