Dear Editor:
I am a longtime citizen of the county and want to see good government in my county. I believe most people do.
I think the people of the county are entitled to know what these R.L.E.P. questions are. Their publication might hold the key to the silence of the four prospective supervisors. It is hard to believe your districts are sponsoring representatives who don’t believe in good government. This includes zoning, good schools, conservation, environment, and justice for its citizens. Exactly what we all want and need.
No doubt prior planning and platforms are useful - maybe needed - in selecting our representatives. Certainly all citizens would like to trust their representatives. But what if trust is destroyed? That can happen. I can vouch for it. When trust is destroyed good government suffers. All the rhetoric about concern for schools (which aren’t patronized) or platforms become hollow. Trust destroyed does for good government what cancer does to the body. We will have good government in our county, our state, and in our nation when we have enough concerned voters who expect, and demand, of their elected representatives that their word be their bond; that they practice fairness and justice to all citizens. Those “Cheap Political Talkers,” along with the office seekers, who love money more than honor, integrity, or consideration for the rights of others, have no place in good government. Good Government doesn’t flow from them. So let us hope and try to get trustworthy representatives who will have the courage, integrity, and wisdom to do a good honest, open job for all of us - whether we have money or not.
