Madam Editor: Writing as a lifelong resident and a duly registered voter of Rappahannock County, I question under whose authority the “Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection” has set itself up as the omnipotent spokesman for the residents of Rappahannock County. All Rappahannockans who are aware of their heritage are interested in conserving the natural beauty and resources of OUR Rappahannock County. It is true that under the free election system it is mandatory that the voters are conscious of the individual candidate’s position on the many key issues. A candidate should make it his business to inform all his constituents of his stand on any and all important questions.
However, in a rural and sparsely populated area such as Rappahanndek 'County it would seem that the residents are not so many to necessitate any selfappointed committee or organization acting as spokesman for the whole. The “Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection” does not speak for me, nor does it represent all the voters of Rappahannock County. I feel that the “Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection” has presumed my right to question my candidates, and in so presuming deserves no more detailed answer to their questionnaire than that given them in your newspaper by Mrs. Betty Coates.
