The Panthers broke their losing streak Friday, December 7 by defeating the Strasburg Rams, 4240, in a low score but high tension game at Strasburg. Both the tying basket and winning shot at the buzzer were scored by Lawrence Turner.
Rappahannock was out to win. Two bus loads of students, escorted by both the principal and vice principal traveled to the game where they outnumbered and out shouted the home fans. Coach Carter Ellis and his team gave them something to shout about by winning the see-saw battle. Though behind by one point at the half and as much as seven points in the third and fourth quarters, the team’s hustle and the coach’s cool pulled the game out. The Panthers were hurt by their own turnover and poor foul shooting (only 31%). They dominated the boards, rebounding 34 times with 14 of them by Harry Jordan.
