Remember when one of the big events of the Holiday Season was going out to cut your own Christmas tree. Traditionally, it was a fragment, sticky, Virginia cedar. My cousins and I would start out with an ax and between the good natured rough and tumble horseplay; and looking over many tree for one that was single pronged, full on all sides, and just the right height; it would take the best part of a wilder afternoon. After dragging the tree home and stuffing it through the front door, it was always taller by two or three feet than the living room ceiling. Even in our late teens we never did learn how to judge the height of a tree in relationship to a ceiling.
