“IN THE SPRING a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Now Where did the poet get the idea that young men have a monopoly on those thoughts of love? It might be that the poet realized that the older person’s thoughts are riot as “light” as the young man’s; it is riot a game, it is serious, it is wonderful — this thing called love. The young man may have more future, we have more.past. 1 often wonder which is better, the anticipation of youth or the retrospection of later years.
