Yes, there is retrospection. Did we take the right turn in the road way back when? Did a few harsh words rob you of a friend who might have walked a weary road with you? Maybe there was a young girl who loved you. But she was too young and there were certain needs, September was approaching, “the waiting game” was too hard to play. Yes, we al. have our memories, maybe a little remorse thrown in.
1 wonder if we live in other memories, too. Tony Wahn wondered — “When night comes o’er the town and shadows fall, does your heart ever ask for me at all?” The judge had his Maud Mueller and his “might have been,” it is assumed that when other lives touch ours, we in turn touch theirs to some degree.
There is a quality that we should develop as we grow older, that is awareness. Keep listening. There is a story in the Book about thi s old (1 think) man who went out into the mountains. He saw several manifestations of natural phenomena, he realized that that was what it was. He kept on listening. Then a still sma ll voice spoke to his inward heart and he was aware that God was speaking to him. He speaks to us in many ways. Listen. □
