YOU DON’T HAVE to be a giant to be a winner.
Runners Charles Thomas and Wade Frazier, Coach John Toth, and all members and supporters of Rappahannock High School’s first track team ever have proven once again that sometimes the best things come in small packages.
Let some of those giant, “super high schools” field all the fancy teams they want, with “great depth” — as the sportswriters say — in all events, but it’s not many of them who come home with two — that’s right, two — state championships!
The track team’s overall performance this spring followed an inspiring season for the basketball team, as well.
And the achievements of the 1972 graduating class in general, and the honor students in particular — Bill Kilby, Deborah Barron, Rick Gore and Dabney Eastham — speak well for wellrounded opportunities for everyone at Rappahannock High. The school officials, and county school administration, deserve a round of applause from all of us as an Outstanding year nears an end.
