RICHARD E. MC HEAR of Rappahannock County has been appointed to serve Fauquier County in a capacity that apparently will be something like a director of public works, or county engineer. The Supervisors voted unanimously last Thursday to hire McNear, contingent upon his getting civil engineer’s certificate. His salary will be $12,000 a year.
Said Supervisor Jason Paige, who made the motion to hire McNear, “the idea is to get a man with professional status who can stand on equal-terms with the people who come in to deal with the county. . .It °is my feeling that he’d be able to do the job.”
Chairman James Austin agreed, stating that he saw the job as developing into a “public works officer,” as well as acting as an aide to the planning commission.
