ACCORDING to a recent study, taxpayers in Rappahannock County are paying a high price for the benefits their area receives in the form of Federal aid.
The figures show that for every dollar in grants that comes to them from Washington — for welfare, education, health, housing, highways, urban renewal and other purposes — the cost to them is $1.04.
That is the estimate of the amount they have been contributing, via their income taxes and excise taxes, for allocation to the aid programs. It is exclusive of what had to be provided locally in the form of matching funds.
