“KEEP DOGS UNDER proper control. Farmers have good reason to regard visiting dogs as pests. In the country a civilised town dog can become a savage and cause a lot of damage by chasing livestock just for the fun of it. In sheep-farming areas even an innocent dog may be helping to spread disease if it is allowed to run loose.
“Nor is it just the farm animals that are at risk. Dogs caught worrying livestock may be shot and their owners may have to pay heavy compensation. Keep your dog above suspicion, under proper control at all times, and on the lead wherever there is livestock about.
“Money Note: Getting on for 4,000 sheep a year are killed by marauding dogs, and others are injured. That’s £ 30,000 worth of damage. Don’t let tjie 37-l/2p dog licence become a licence to kill.”
