Fire engines pump water from the pond at the rear of Amissville carnival grounds as pumping -demonstrations and hose handling techm<pies are learned by men attending fire school. The annual event is held at Amissville under the auspices of the County Fire Association and the Virginia Department of Education. Seven certified instructors taught the 30-hour course to the more than 100 participants enrolled. Of those enrolling, 57 completed the entire 30 hours, among them one woman. School director Paul Poling declared this the very best one yet.
