“NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC”

“Notice is hereby given to the public that Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Company on August 14, 1973, Hied with the State Corporation Commission new schedules of rates and charges, and rules and regulations. Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Company now serves customers formerly served by Lee Telephone Company which was acquired by merger on April 5, 1973. The effective date of the applicant’s proposed new schedules of rates and charges, arid rules and regulations has been suspended until January 1, 1974, unless otherwise, in the meantime, ordered. The proposed new schedules will result in increased charges for telephone service. Investigation of the proposed rates and charges, rules and regulations, has been entered upon by the State Corporation Commission and a hearing on the new schedules has been set for 10:00 a.m. on November 26, 1973, in the Courtroom of the Commission, Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia, at which time and place members of the public generally may appear and present such relevant data as may be desired and be heard. The application and proposed new schedules may be seen at the office of the State Corporation Commission, Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia 23209, and may be reviewed at any business office of the Company where bills may be paid.

The applicant has been directed to file the testimony and exhibits of witnesses to be offered in support of its application by September 14, 1973. Any person may review the testimony and exhibits of the Company on or after September 14, 1973, at the office of the Commission or notify any business office of the Company and it will be made available for review.

The Commission staff has been directed to file with the Commission testimony and exhibits showing the results of its investigation of the Company’s request for an increase in rates on or before November 15, 1973.

Persons desiring to intervene and be heard should mail to the Commission by October 15, 1973, a notice showing his or her name and interest in this proceeding, care of William C. Young, Clerk, State Corporation Commission, P. 0. Box 1197, Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia 23209, with a copy to William H. King, Counsel to Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Company, 1400 Ross Building, Richmond, Virginia 23219. Intervenors wishing copies of the applicant’s proposed new schedules of rates and charges and the prepared testimony and exhibits of the Company, the Commission staff, or of any intervenor who may file testimony and exhibits shall so request in their notice and it will be supplied. Intervenors should file with the Commission and send to Counsel to the Company by November 15, 1973, any direct testimony and exhibits proposed to be offered by witnesses for intervenors.
