“But there is another side to Southern and black Americans that even some other Americans don’t know about. In fairness, we felt a need to show the true picture, of communities where the races do get along, especially in the South.’’
PLATT SAID Perdue particularly emphasized how Rappahannock’s black community life is centered around churces. “It is the center of their lives.” Much of the color film is consequently devoted to depictions of this churchoriented society.
