A NEW law concerning spotlighting will go into effect October 1. As of that date it shall be unlawful to cast a light into a field used by deer between 10 p.m. and half an hour before sunrise. That’s it. There is no mention of a weapon in possession. All previous laws also remain in effect which means anyone shining a light attached to a vehicle or as spotlight or flashlights into a field any time of year at any time between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise will be in violation if in possession of a weapon.
The early squirrel season in Rappahannock and adjoining counties will be the first 14 days of October. That means opening Monday, October 1, and closing Saturday the 13th.
