DURING the early part of January 1974, welfare recipients in three categories—old age assistance, aid to the blind, and aid to the permanently and totally disabled—started receiving their first checks under the new Supplemental Security Program, according to Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, district manager of the Winchester, social security office.
Many other persons who are not receiving assistance from the local welfare offices will also be getting their first checks under the new Supplemental Security Income Program during the first half of January. ;
These checks will be issued by the federal government, and will be gold in color as opposed to the usual green colored federal checks.
