Individual dog licenses will remain at the rate adopted by the supervisors in December: $3 for a male dog, $5 for a female dog, and $3 for an unsexed female. Proof of unsexing will be required.
Newbill Miller suggested that Rappahannock County pass an ordinance making it a misdemeanor to abandon dogs, punishable by a $50 fine. Miller thought the misdemeanor clause could be incorporated ip the ordinance with the fee scale changes, thus another public hearing wouldn’t be needed.
“If someone is abandoning a dog they’re trying to avoid paying for a license, ’ ’ he said.
However, George Davis said a separate hearing would have to be held. Thus the Supervisors were assured they’d discuss dogs for another- month.
