FOR A QUICK-growing crop, try radishes. These will be ready to eat in four weeks. They must be grown very rapidly if they are to be crisp and succulent. Scatter radish seeds on moist soil in a six or eight inch pot. Cover with about one-fourth inch of soil and place a piece of glass over the pot to conserve moisture until the seeds germinate.
Thin young radish plants to about one inch apart. Grow your radishes in a cool but sunny place. An unheated size porch is fine as long as it does not freeze. Radishes will grow very poorly in a warm house with poor light. □
