$1000 center gift
A CHECK FOR $1,000 was donated by Mrs. W.R. Shaw of McLean to the Rappahannock Recreation Association at the Flea Market in Washington, Va., on the Fourth of July.
Mrs. Shaw said she hoped the money would be used to help provide needed recreation facilities at the proposed Youth Center. “I was so impressed with the young people I saw working at the Flea ., Market Youth Booth,” she said, ‘‘that I wanted to help them all I could financially.”
Mrs.- Shaw emphasized that she is not a rich woman. • ‘‘But I like to share the little I have with those who need it most,” she added.
The donation was gratefully accepted by Granville Eastham, president, and Fook Yuen, student treasurer, of the Rappahannock Recreation Association.
Other contributions received at the Youth Booth from shoppers and strollers at the Flea Market totalled $60.68.
IN ADDITION, THE Youth Center netted $725 from the Flea Market festivities; $545 of this was in direct sales at the Youth Booth, and $180 was received on a percentage basis from vendors and other organizations manning booths along the streets of Washington.
A federal grant of $15,000 was announced last month through the Virginia Urban Assistance Incentive Fund. A similar amount will be needed from future fund raising activities and personal contributions.
Persons wishing to send tax deductible donations can mail them to the Rappahannock Recreation Association in care of Box 98, Washington, Va. 22747. An average of $3 from every man, woman and child in the county would put the fund over the top.L
