Mr. Yowell was educated in Madison and Rappahannock Counties and was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He served 40 years in the public schools of Rappahannock, Madison, Greene and Nelson counties. The Waverly Yowell Elementary School in Madison was named in his honor.

He was a member of the F. T. Valley Baptist Church, a member and past president of the Madison County Lions Club, and was a 50 year member of the Lynn Banks Masonic Lodge in Madison.

Mr. Yowell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hale Yowell; four sons, John A. Yowell of Bealeton, Everett H. Yowell of Etlan, Joel B. Yowell of Pratts and W. Mayo Yowell of Madison; three daughters, Mrs. W. C. Rosson of West Point, Va.,
