ABOUT 40 percent of married women now work in jobs covered by social security, compared to 30 percent in 1960, according to Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, social security district manager in Winchester.
Almost 19 million married women have jobs outside their homes compared to 12 1/4 million in 1960, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Nine out of ten jobs are covered by social security. “Working women build social security disability, survivors, retirement, and Medicare protection _ for themselves and their fam- ' ilies,” Mrs. Crumpton said “More married women work now than in 1960 because families are smaller and there are more jobs for women and more day-care facilities for children.”
