NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

Notice is hereby given that The Potomac Edison Company on July 19, 1974, filed with the State Corporation Commission of Virginia an application requesting a temporary increase in the rates charged for electric service. This temporary increase was granted by the Commission and became effective for all service rendered on and after August 1, 1974.

The Company filed a second application for a further increase in rates on a permanent basis on August 20, 1974. The Commission has suspended the effective date of these proposed rates and has scheduled a hearing on both the temporary and permanent applications in its Courtroom, Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia, at 10:00 A.M. on February 10, 1975.

The temporary increase will remain in effect until the staff of the Commission has investigated the reasonableness of the proposed rates, the public hearing has been held, and a final decision as to the necessity for an increase has been rendered by the Commission. If the temporary increase should be determined to be excessive, then the excess amount that has been collected will be refunded with interest by the Company. If the Commission finds that a rate increase is needed, then it will order the surcharge terminated and will authorize the Company to increase its rates in the amount found reasonable.

The Company has been directed to file with file Commission the testimony and exhibits of the witnesses it proposes to offer in support of its applications by December 16, 1974. This material may be reviewed after that date in the office of the Commission or at any office of the Company where electric bills may be paid. The staff of the Commission has been directed to undertake an investigation to determine the reasonableness of the Company’s rates and to file the testimony and exhibits of its witnesses by January 15, 1975, and this material may be reviewed at the office of the Commission after that date.

Any person who expects to participate at the public hearing as a protestant to offer evidence and to cross examine witnesses shall file a Notice of Protest as provided by the Commission’s Rules of Practice and Procedure, on or before November 29, 1974. Also, each person who proposes to participate as a protestant shall, on or before January 20, 1975, file a Protest, together with ten copies of all prepared testimony and exhibits which such person expects to offer, and .hill serve a copy thereof upon counsel for the Company and upon all other protestants requesting same. The Notice of Protest, Protest, and pre-filed testimony and exhibits shall be filed with the Commission’s Clerk at the below listed address.

Any interested person who desires to attend the hearing as an intervener, or general public witness, and to make a statement in his own behalf need only (i) notify the Commission in writing by filing a notice thereof with William C. Young, Clerk, P.O. Box 1197, Richmond, Virginia 23209 and (ii) appear in the Commission’s Courtroom at 9:45 A.ll. on February 10, 1975, and complete a Bodce-of-^pearance form to be provided by the Commission’s Bailiff.
